Lesson plan: Authority is Constructed and Contextual

Targeted Group: First year LIS students.

Topic: The value of Information literacy by university libraries

Materials needed: Access to the internet, Note pad, pen and access to the library system and data bases.

Learning outcomes:

• Students should be able to search the web and library database for both popular and scholarly articles on the topic given
• Students should be able to evaluate the sources based on the criteria given to them
• Students should be able understand and articulate the differences between a popular and a scholarly source 

Learning Activities

•  Search the database for Bibliography for scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles about their given topic 
•  Read the articles and question the credibility and quality of the sources by filling the following information. Using the very same format as below in this image.

•  Students will have to find a website discussing the topic; they will have to critically evaluate the website using the online sources evaluating criteria’s,and give their view if they would consider using the information in the future or not.
